Dr. Randolph Has MORE Grandbaby Time In New Orleans

Ok, Ok, so I’m taking a little time off to spend with grandbabies.  Could you possibly blame me?  Thursday we went to New Orleans, LA, with our main goal of visiting the Audubon Institute’s Insectarium.

First stop:  Biegnets at the Original Cafe Du Monde in the French Quarter!

We placed our beignet order and in no time they were delivered to our table.!

 Charlie and Sara Riley both have a good appetite after walking through the French Quarter from the parking lot to Cafe du Monde, passing the site of CNN’s Anderson Cooper’s broadcast location on the edge of the Mississippi River.

Sara Riley and Charlie had their own money to spend in New Orleans, and the first thing “Sister” found to buy was this kitty mask.  She and Charlie also bought a metal Peace Sign wind spinner for Granny.
The Audubon Insectarium was the next stop, and well worth the wait for their 10 AM opening time and the heat we had to deal with to get there. My best friend, John, called me this morning to ask me if I were an entomologist yet! This museum is every bit as much fun and entertainment as for adults as for children.  Be sure to make time for the Terminix Movie Theater for the Awards Night show.  You will laugh your head off! Practice your oohs and aahs before you visit the Butterflies In Flight exhibit because it will definitely have you seeing beauty in your dreams that night.

Deannie's Seafood. MMMMMMMM! The next stop was Deanies for crawfish, crawfish and, um, stuffed flounder. Is there any better food on the earth than New Orleans? I can't imagine it!I've never seen a ceiling fan system like this: 3 fans, belts, and one motor.

Then it was off to the Royal Sonesta to revisit the site of Jeremy’s proposal to Regina.  They just celebrated their 10-

year anniversary and we all wanted to go back to the spot where their marriage “began.”  It was a very emotional moment, because, as Jeremy got down on one knee to propose, I was videotaping from the balcony above.  Jeremy saw me, but Regina didn’t because her back was to me.  Brenda was standing behind me, sobbing quietly.  For their 10th anniversary present I made a DVD of the event, captured forever.

bedraggled, forgive us.  We got up at 6:00, we left home about 8:30, we got to Cafe du Monde about 10 and it was after 10 before we got home.

 

Friday, at yet another lunch at the Pirate’s Cove, Dad asked Charlie what his favorite memory from the day in New Orleans was.  He said, “The trolley.”
“Not the ferry?” Dad inquired.  “The ferry is Pater’s most favorite thing to do in New Orleans.”
“No,” Charlie replied, “but that was second!”
A wonderful day all around and a great day of new memories of a new city Charlie had never been to before and Sara Riley had been to only once.  By the end of the day we were tired, but satisfied we had crammed all we could into one long day.

    I am so glad you had such a wonderful visit. Sara Riley and Charlie are growing up fast! After reading about your visit to the Insectarium, I started planning my parents’ next visit. We cannot miss the Butterflies In Flight exhibit (for mom) and WWII museum (for Dad). I can’t wait to be back at work to hear even more stories about the visit. Have a great day!

    Oh, what a day. Sounds like so much fun. If only it were not so hot in New Orleans. Memories….of Pater & Granny. A peace sign for Granny? It’s not the 60s anymore, Brenda.

    What a fun day we had! So glad the kids (young AND old) got to experience all the sights! We’re ready for our next NOLA trip.
