DEET Insect Repellent Is NOT Safe In Pets

A MyPetsDoctor.com reader asked an important question today, “Is it OK to use insect repellents on my pets?”

The simple and emphatic answer is, “NO!”

Several years ago a company came out with an OTC (over-the-counter) flea control product that came with great promises, as OTC products often do.

The actual flea control active ingredient was safe, but they decided to use an insect repellent in the product, too, and many pets became ill, and some died.

Even though we think of the DEET products as being safe, we also know that their use in children requires that they be greatly diluted, and that quantities should be limited even in adult humans.

There is no safe level of DEET use in pets.See you tomorrow, Dr. Randolph.
